How To Keep Makeup From Getting On Clothes
Makeup looks pretty but leaves a pretty sizable mess behind. And funny enough, before I got into to doing videos, I really didn't have much involvement in heavy makeup. I hateful, I wore mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow every now and then, and lipstick for special occasions. I had my makeup washed for my hymeneals and the artist did a KILLER job. While she was doing information technology, I was just fascinated by all the products and tools she was using. I idea that there was no way I'd be able to pull that all off. Well, as fourth dimension went on and I started doing more than videos—alongside us getting an HD video photographic camera—makeup quickly became a necessity! HD picks up every single flaw, so at that place's some prep work required before you proceed camera. If y'all're a friend of mine, you'll know that I'm a pretty casual girl and hardly clothing makeup otherwise.
I've taken a few makeup lessons with Vicki Millar, a professional makeup creative person, to help me acquire how to practice my makeup properly for camera work. I've learned a lot along the mode and I supplement what I larn with some Goss makeup videos. Recently, Vicki was over teaching me how to practise a killer smokey eye (and winged eyeliner which requires mucho practise), and I asked her for some of her best makeup clean-up tips that I could share with our customs members. She generously obliged, and at present I get to tell you all about them! I've combined her tips with a few of my ain to create a KILLER top x makeup cleaning tip list!
Makeup Cleanup Tip #1
Brushes with wood bases demand to dry out on an angle so as to non soak and deform the wood brush handle.
My MAC 266 castor I distinctly remember purchasing with a pot of gel eyeliner many years ago. I never thought to clean the castor (this was long before I started Clean My Infinite) and eventually it became crusty, strong and unusable. I figured that I would eventually get around to cleaning information technology, and one twenty-four hour period I did. I plopped that brush in a container with soapy water and let it soak, overnight. In the morning time I establish the wood on the castor croaky and expanded. The finish came off. Information technology looked like a chewed up pencil, it was sorry. Now, due to my frugality, I kept it and I still use information technology to this twenty-four hours, but that castor is a constant reminder that you can't permit brushes soak, or even absorb water. If they do, this bang-up and splitting is an inevitability.
So what Vicki taught me is this: after I clean the brush, roll a washcloth upwards and lay the brushes on the acme of the scroll, tilting the bristled end ever and then slightly downwards. That style, the water won't absorb back into the woods. Brilliant, and my brushes take been in terrific shape since I started doing this.
I've likewise learned how to hang the brushes from my towel rack to dry out. Sounds strange but works like a amuse! Take a hair rubberband and twist to create 2 loops. Then, wrap the loop around the back of your towel bar, exposing the two loop ends on either side of the towel bar facing you lot. You should have two loops, and now you lot can slip the brush, bristles down, through the 2 loops! Sentinel the video to see how this is done, I assure yous, you'll love it.
Makeup Cleanup Tip #ii
Clean your brushes later on each apply, you tin even use anti-bacterial manus soap
Woah. OK. This was a major news wink to me. Firstly, I never, ever thought I needed to make clean my brushes that often, and secondly, anti-bacterial soap seems and so sacrilegious for use on brushes! I did a video on making your own castor cleaner, and the recipe is really expert…simply Vicki says it'south actually not necessary. In fact, nosotros can utilize dish soap, vegetable soap, anti-bacterial manus soap or shampoo. I've tried information technology and information technology worked fine, and my brushes are A-OK. What I at present do is take a drop of soap, roll the bristles in the soap, and run under lukewarm water, rolling the castor beard around on my hand. I keep the water going until the color runs clear then blot off the excess water and lay to dry out. It works wonderfully. Now, cleaning the brush every time is something she does equally a professional person artist, but for someone like me, I will clean my brushes when I think they need information technology – then foundation and concealer get cleaned afterward every use, and eyeshadows and blush brushes get cleaned weekly. It takes no time, I've spent expert money on my makeup brushes so it's worth taking care of them.
I've also got a post up on how to clean a Beautyblender (or related makeup sponge), and then be sure to check that out!
Makeup Cleanup Tip #3
Alter your mascara monthly
Absolutely, I don't do this. When Vicki told this to me, I asked her why. She said that mascara is the fastest way to spread an middle infection and that changing information technology regularly is crucial. At present, to her defense, she is a makeup creative person and works with a lot of different people (although she does employ disposable applicators). What I know nigh mascara is that information technology dries out quickly, especially if pumped oftentimes. What I practice is change mine every two-3 months, but if I get sick (or should I go an heart infection) I would alter information technology right after. So, I suppose for the more 'germ aware' people out there, you can alter it monthly, and for people who are not every bit 'germ aware', y'all tin stick with the lower frequency if your health doesn't alter.
Makeup Cleanup Tip #iv
Disinfect your eyeshadows
Sanitize your eyeshadows, this sounds foreign? But let's say someone borrows your makeup, or you used information technology right when you got ill. If you want to kill the germs which may fester, hither's what you lot can practise. Skim the tip layer of the shadow by just removing information technology with a tissue (i.east. rubbing it chop-chop to castor off the top layer), and then spritz it quickly with rubbing booze and allow information technology dry. This won't actually harm the shadow, just kill the germs. This is a handy tip!
Makeup Cleanup Tip #v
Avert cross-contamination by using a spatula instead of your finger
If you lot take a pot of moisturizer or use any makeup production by earthworks it out with your finger, you may be amend served using a small makeup spatula. They are inexpensive and readily available. the kind of look like a dental tool! All you do is take the product you lot need out with the spatula, and place information technology either on your hand or a small palette and work from there, refilling with a scoop from the clean spatula as necessary. It'southward quite simple and keeps your products clean.
Makeup Cleanup Tip #6
Easily repair a smashed powder with rubbing alcohol
This is a really fun and easy tip. I've dropped my makeup plenty of times, and have seen my expensive eyeshadows smash to pieces. I pick them all up and just allow them sit in the pan, and the whole situation gets messy. Vicki tells me there's a magical fix for this, and information technology works for any compact powdered makeup. All y'all need to practise is assemble the pieces dorsum together as best you tin (and this should be fairly elementary if you driblet the container and all product is independent), and spray it with rubbing alcohol and permit information technology dry. It works and it saves you money, this is a swell tip!!!
Makeup Cleanup Tip #7
Make clean an eyelash curler's pads weekly and supercede every 3 months
Eyelash curlers are so funny because they terrify men. I can't blame them, they look like Medieval contraptions that are designed for the sole purpose to pluck your eyeball correct out. Dear it. On that note, the fiddling pads that actually clamp your lash tend to get build-up over time, and when Vicki teaches me she explains that yous can curl and coat with mascara several times to achieve a very lovely lash. So, I practice that and it does load up the curler with mascara, that'south for sure. What you need to exercise is pour some rubbing alcohol on a cotton pad and wipe the pads clean, ideally weekly. Then, purchase the refill pads for your brand of curler and replace every few months.
Makeup Cleanup Tip #8
Protecting your apparel from makeup when you put a acme or dress on
Always consider prevention, this is the message behind tip#viii. Protect your clothing when applying makeup but wearing a robe over the garment or something like. Sometimes, I will practice my makeup earlier getting dressed, and my sis-in-law actually told me that you lot can necktie silk (or similar cloth, I actually wouldn't use silk) scarf around your face up (delight avert anything dangerous) while putting on your top to avert smearing your makeup all over the garment. I but went to my cousin's wedding and wore a gorgeous bodycon dress, which I needed my husband to aid me get into strictly because I didn't want information technology to ruin my makeup or the dress. The silk scarf would have helped, big time. If yous've ever seen my 'how to clean a cutting board video', y'all'll see I am in a white turtleneck. That shirt was actually meant for some other video, but I got makeup all over the shirt, once again, same reason. So, using a scarf is an awesome idea.
Makeup Cleanup Tip #9
Removing makeup stains
Like any stain, the reply is 'information technology'due south complicated', much similar a Facebook status. Truth is, in that location are zillions of combinations of products, materials and other variables that go into creating a stain. So, some good general tips are helpful, merely mayhap it is best to research your particular stain combination as back-up.
Now, if y'all do get a stain, you tin apply dish liquid every bit a pre-treater, to remove the spot on the garment. If y'all use a little makeup sponge, information technology will aid blot the stain, and you tin can also utilise a cleaning toothbrush with soft bristles to gently buff out the stain. Rinse and repeat. Many people swear past using makeup remover equally a style to get rid of makeup stains. This is a great idea, merely keep in mind that many of these are oil-based, and then yous'll need to rinse the garment very well to remove the oil equally well, so follow upwards with dish liquid. I've also heard of people using babe wipes to get rid of makeup around their collar, which seems to work well. I've used hairspray to remove lipstick from a shirt before, and to my excitement and delight (and relief), information technology worked! Finally, powdered oxygen bleach (Oxiclean) will work well for makeup stain removal, and so follow the production label, as well equally the cloth intendance label and the production, should do the heavy lifting for you.
Makeup Cleanup Tip #10
Cleaning your lipstick
Let's say you are sick, and right before it hit you, y'all donned your hottest shade of lipstick. Or, your friend borrowed your lipstick and y'all're a bit queasy near the whole situation. Even if that didn't happen, our mouths conduct bacteria and cleaning your lipstick every so frequently isn't a terrible idea. I've seen this in many makeup shops earlier, and for good reason. Quite merely, turn your lipstick tube up slightly, and wipe off the top layer of lipstick, only with a tissue. So, pour a small corporeality of rubbing alcohol (or vodka) into a glass (I remember a shot glass would be sensible here) and dip the exposed lipstick into the alcohol for 30 seconds. Then, remove it and gently dab the alcohol off and allow to dry. This is harmless to the lipstick and will proceed information technology clean and in good shape.
I hope you lot've enjoyed this postal service, I think it's super helpful and I've started to use these tricks with my makeup routine.
